So, last week my son was sent home from school on Monday. When I went up to the nurse she asked "Does he have asthma?" I responded that he has never been diagnosed with it, but I am taking him to the dr...so I will ask.
So, on Wednesday (earliest appt. date) They did a few test on him...The spirometry: measures to see how well the lungs are working. Methacholine: which is the bronchial airways are challenged after inhaling methacholine, causing an asthma like reaction. And of course a chest x-ray.
So he has an inhaler with albuterol, and also has to use a nebulizer with Xopenex....this allows the lungs to relax and open up to allow normal air flow....He has to do this 3 times a day..He also takes Loratadine for allergies, and things in the air, that are bad for asthmatics.
I am praying that he outgrows this, bc he is a very energetic kid, and loves sports already....But so far I am going to have to take him back to the dr bc it looks like it is getting worse....
